Your dental practice management software is programmed to generate a secondary claim once the primary insurance payment has been posted. Standard practice is to submit the secondary claim with all necessary attachments immediately following the automatic generation of the claim. The preferred method for submitting secondary claims electronically with the primary insurance explanation of benefits (EOB) attached. However, some payers are particular about the size of the attachment and will reject the EOB if it is not the original size showing all pertinent information about the primary payer.

However, some dental radiographs may be considered of non-diagnostic quality even when combined with what is seen clinically, a definite diagnosis may be confirmed. From an insurance reimbursement point of view, if the image is not of diagnostic quality, the service is subject to denial. As a result of current COVID-19 pandemic climate and recent regulations, dental providers are providing additional personal protection equipment than pre COVID-19 . Historically dentists have had the stigma of being an ‘intimidating persona behind the mask’. Dental providers are now being forced to up the ante to supply multiple masks, including N95, face shields, gowns, etc. This challenges the practice to create warm and inviting energy with patients, let alone breathe. Many offices are installing air purification systems at a cost in the multiple thousand dollar range. As dental professionals, we do what is necessary to protect our patient but also our team members who we spend countless hours with, their families, ourselves and our families at home.
